Efficient Enhanced Hybrid Implicit-Explicit Procedure to Gyrotropic Plasma in Open Regions With Fine Geometry Details Along Single Direction

Abstract: For the simulation of gyrotropic plasma structure with fine geometry details along a single direction in open regions, the hybrid implicit-explicit (HIE) algorithm with improved absorbing boundary condition is modified based on the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) algorithm. More precisely, incorporating the perfectly matched layer (PML) formulation, the higher order concept and the HIE procedure, the proposed implementation shows its significant superiority in terms of efficiency, accuracy and absorption.… Show more

“…In [14], the high-order FDTD method was used to simulate the RCS (radar cross section) from the plasma fow in a shock tube. To increase the computational efciency, Chen and Wang et al used the hybrid-implicit-explicit (HIE)-FDTD method [15,16] to simulate the gyrotropic plasma in open regions [17]. Chen and Wang proposed to apply the weakly conditionally stable (WCS)-FDTD method [18] to simulate the plasma frequency selective surface [19].…”

“…The formulation for dielectric material still needs to be investigated. From another aspect, all of the existing absorbing boundary conditions for the HIE procedure and leapfrog scheme are based on the NPML and CFS-PML formulation [35][36][37][38][39]. These algorithms must be modified according to the different computational domains due to the media-dependent formulation.…”
