Efficient antibacterial AIEgens induced ROS for selective photodynamic treatment of bacterial keratitis

Abstract: Bacterial keratitis (BK) is an acute infection of the cornea, accompanied by uneven epithelium boundaries with stromal ulceration, potentially resulting in vision loss. Topical antibiotic is the regular treatment for BK. However, the incidence rate of multidrug-resistant bacteria limits the application of traditional antibiotics. Therefore, a cationic aggregation-induced emission luminogens (AIEgens) named TTVP is utilized for the treatment of BK. TTVP showed no obvious cytotoxicity in maintaining the normal c… Show more

“…TTVP was first synthesized via Suzuki−Miyaura coupling reaction of 4‐bromo‐N,N‐diphenylaniline with (5‐formylthiophene‐2‐alkyl) boronic acid to form 5‐(4‐(diphenylamino)phenyl)thiophene‐2‐carbonate aldehyde, and a condensation reaction with a pyridine salt subsequently was introduced to produce TTVP, which owned a typical D‐A structure. [ 160 ] Similar to IQ‐Cm mentioned above, TTVP has an extremely low toxicity and good biocompatibility even at high concentration. In addition, it selectively binds to S. aureus in the normal ocular environment.…”
