Efficiency or technology adoption: A case study in waste-treatment technology

Abstract: Improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of supply-side waste management are necessary in many countries. In Japan, municipalities with limited budgets have delayed the introduction of new waste-management technologies. Thus, the central government has used subsidies to encourage municipalities to adopt certain new technologies to improve waste-management efficiency. In this study, we measure the efficiency of waste management and explore how technology is related to technical efficiency. We find that … Show more

“…Efficiency aims to map the efficiency of technology while adopting digital communication technology among unorganized retailers would deliver several benefits in their supply chain management. In several studies, inefficient technologies affect business significantly and create ambiguity in technology adoption (Whittlesey, 2003;Managi, 2014). Thus, this study argues that efficiency is directly associated with satisfaction and indirectly influences continuous intention to use.…”

“…Another approach to consider is equation-based diffusion modeling, which can be non-parametric and probabilistic. It can identify the number of adopters based on the previous adoption conditioning of different factors, including non-rationality assumptions ( Managi et al., 2014 ). Still, this approach is not flexible enough to address detailed levels of system dynamism, market competition, and interactions among different actors.…”

“…Technical knowledge and experience are important in determining the adopting technology (Hoque & Sorwar, 2017;Managi at al., 2014;Prause, 2019;Purohit & Arora, 2021), and lack of technical knowledge and experience inhibit adoption. Similarly, in this study, it was evident that the limited technical knowledge and experience in using the technology among the accounting professionals resulted in the low levels of adoption.…”
