Efficiency of sapota leaf extract against aluminium corrosion in a 3 M sodium hydroxide hostile fluid atmosphere: a green and sustainable approach

Abstract: The present study focussed on the performance of a sapota leaf extract in controlling the aluminium (Al) corrosion in 3 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) medium thoroughly investigated through gasometric, atomic absorption spectroscopy, electrochemical Tafel diagrams and impedance spectroscopy techniques. The outcome shows that small amounts of the sapota leaf extract are sufficient for the effective mitigation of the Al corrosion process in 3 M NaOH solution. The gasometric data revealed that four different concentra… Show more

“…Plant part extracts and organic components extracted from various plant parts acted as effective inhibitors, 5,6 such as pomegranate peel crude extract, 7 Ircinia strobilina crude extract, 8 sapota leaf extract, 9 and Lagerstroemia speciosa leaf extract. 10 However, corrosion researchers are committed to know the inhibitory active ingredients of plant extract inhibitors and performing separation and extraction. Organic sugars, flavonoids, 11 polyphenols, alkaloids, 12 and tannins can interact with a metal surface and obstruct corrosion active site.…”

“…In searching for highly efficient, readily available, relatively cheap, and eco-friendly inhibitors, numerous experimental studies have been undertaken on plant extractions and biomaterials as metal corrosion inhibitors in corrosive solution. Plant part extracts and organic components extracted from various plant parts acted as effective inhibitors, , such as pomegranate peel crude extract, Ircinia strobilina crude extract, sapota leaf extract, and Lagerstroemia speciosa leaf extract . However, corrosion researchers are committed to know the inhibitory active ingredients of plant extract inhibitors and performing separation and extraction.…”

“…The hydrophobicity of the protective coating on the soft‐cast steel was measured using the water contact angle. [ 41 ] A contact angle investigation is conducted to examine the surface morphologies of soft‐cast steel dipped in 1 M HCl without and, with CRLE . Table 8 shows the shift of contact angle from the bare to the inhibited specimen.…”

“…The economic and ecofriendly inhibitors developed from plant extracts such as Hibiscus sabdariffa leaves [3], Gossipium hirsutum leaves [4], Apium graveolens seeds [5], Sansevieria trifasciata leaves [6], Ambrosia maritime leaves [7], sapota leaves [8], Phyllanthus amarus [9], and black acacia extract [10]. These plant extracts are utilized as green inhibitors for aluminum in alkaline medium with good corrosion efficiency, which prompts finding new inhibitors with higher efficiency and availability.…”
