Efficiency of Pollutants Removal in Košice Area with Respect of Living Quality Increasing

Abstract: The qualitative condition and development of the environment in the Košice region is clearly affected by any activity within social development. Anthropogenic activities, especially in the manufacturing industry, negatively impact on the individual components of the environment in particular emissions of contaminants into air, water, soil and rock environment, also due to accidents, waste production and also by remote of agricultural land. It should be noted that among various components of the environment are… Show more

“…1) [5]. In addition to the occurrence of heaps and sludge ponds, the types of brownfields are also characterized by machine-technological equipment residues, which may contain fillings with chemical compounds which are risk for environmental quality and human health [4] In addition, the surrounding of brownfields is clearly identifiable in the landscape environment and in terms of environmental quality, also high-risk [6]. As it was mentioned above, it is possible to consider their occurrence on the territory of the Slovak Republic negative because their reuse would reduce the reduction of environmental quality, aesthetic character of the country, biodiversity, economic performance of the region in which they are localized.…”

“…The adverse effects on the environment are most negatively manifested by gaseous contamination (the most serious is SO 2 ) and solid emissions (fly ash). Fly ash can be captured with high efficiency but SO 2 is a major problem especially in the atmosphere where it reacts with other components and secondarily contaminates the soil and water resources [3].…”

“…Local sources of air pollution are traffic and local heating systems using solid fuel. The prevalent northern winds lead to the spreading of pollutants in the south (Pavolová et al 2012).…”
