“…The diameter of picophytoplankton was between 0.7 and 1.0 lm, and the retention efficiencies found in the current study fall within the range of reported efficiencies for 1 lm (unidentified) particles (e.g. 50 %: Møhlenberg and Riisgård 1978;20 %: Riisgård et al 1980;14-64 %: Strohmeier et al 2012). …”

“…Numerous studies, starting with a study by Møhlenberg and Riisgård (1978), have reported on the particle size range that can be retained by adult mussels (see for overview Strohmeier et al 2012). For a long time, it is was assumed that mussels do not efficiently retain smaller particles, with studies reporting on 90 % retention for 3-lm particles by Mytilus edulis, while 1-lm particles are retained with 50 % efficiency only (Møhlenberg and Riisgård 1978).…”

“…Filtration rates were expressed in terms of liters per hour per gram dry tissue weight (DTW) (l h -1 g -1 ), using a predetermined conversion of DTW = 0.044TWW -0.043; R 2 adj = 0.93, in which DTW was determined by freeze-drying oyster meats to a constant weight (48 h). While it is possible that I. galbana was not retained with 100 % efficiency in the laboratory trials (Wilson 1983), I. galbana has an equivalent spherical diameter of 4-6 lm and oysters generally retain particles [4 lm with high efficiency (Moehlenberg and Riisgaard 1978). Furthermore, the cell concentration used in this study (25 cells ll -1 ) is in the range found to have the highest retention efficiencies as well as the highest pumping rates for O. edulis, Linnaeus, 1758 feeding on I. galbana (Wilson 1983).…”

“…1). 기의 입자만 여과할 수 있으며 (Møhlenberg and Riisgard, 1978), 바지락은 1.4-2.0 µm 크기의 먹이를 최대효율로 여과할 수 있다고 보고되었다 (Tezuka et al, 2009). 이와 같은 각 종별 구조적인 차 이도 여수율 차이에 영향을 미칠 수 있을 것이다.…”
