Efficiency of increasing of the track speed using simulation in Opentrack

Abstract: In this paper the simulation in SW OpenTrack is used to analyze the ride of predefined trainsets on model of hypothetic infrastructure in order to find out what the track speed is effective in terms of shortening the driving time, traction energy consumption and other operational indicators. The next studied variable was the distance between two stops. The simulation results then provide recommendations for future modifications to the infrastructure.

“…Publications in the field of railway transport research are usually focused on railway line technology or on railway stations. The paper [2] follows line technology and it searches for balance between train speed, travel time and energy consumption by riding between two stations. Example dealing with stations is [3], which considers using of hybrid Petri-net for simulation of railway station operation.…”

“…As for the research trainsets, the 151.0 engine with 7 Bmz coaches, Škoda 109E with 7 Bmz coaches, Siemens Viaggio Comfort non-traction unit with Taurus engine and multiple units of the 680 ČD "Pendolino" series, AVE, and ICE 3 were chosen. For a more detailed description of the model, see previous article [19].…”
