Lean is one of the older but also still urgent topics in manufacturing. Remember when Lean principles were the one and only way for improving manufacturing products and production sector, many industries are struggling to compete with the manufacturing sector emerging in different countries around the world by using lean manufacturing tools, but moments are changing. As operations have become capacity for innovation, flexible and more complex, manufacturers are finding that Lean methods solely are not enough to achieve certified operational excellence.so; Industry 4.0 is one of the hot topics of current manufacturing sectors although some (myself included) say that it is overrated. Manufacturers seeking to effectives their operations need to understand the interaction between traditional lean manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Several studies of operational excellence programs in recent years have seen industries generate valuable synergies by implementing lean 4.0 holistically, instead of sequentially or independently. By conveying the right combination of advancements technologies, manufacturers can boost coordination; speed and efficiency both approaches have the same goal, which is operational excellence. This paper investigates that how can optimize industrial performance by lean manufacturing and industry 4.0. Also, issues occurring with design a road map to implement industry 4.0 and lean manufacturing holistically, instead of sequentially or independently and how Industry 4.0 can support the improvement of the specific lean methods

Perusahaan manufaktur yang mengkhususkan diri dalam pengolahan hasil hutan menjadi produk jadi berupa kayu lapis menghadapi tantangan terkait manajemen work in process (WIP) di berbagai stasiun kerja, termasuk pada stasiun pengeringan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengusulkan solusi melalui penerapan metode kanban untuk mengurangi WIP. Langkah-langkah yang dilakukan mencakup penentuan penjadwalan produksi, perancangan format kanban, penentuan aliran kanban, penentuan kapasitas kontainer, perhitungan jumlah kanban, dan perbandingan jumlah WIP sebelum dan sesudah implementasi sistem kanban. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada lantai produksi kayu lapis, terdapat 22 kartu kanban produksi dan 33 kartu kanban tarik yang beredar di setiap stasiun kerja. Implementasi sistem kanban berhasil menghasilkan penurunan signifikan sebesar rata-rata 99% pada jumlah WIP.

Embedded systems have become a key technology for the evolution of medical devices. However, the regulatory requirements that must be met make designing and developing these devices challenging. As a result, many start-ups attempting to develop medical devices fail. Therefore, this article presents a methodology to design and develop embedded medical devices while minimising the economic investment during the technical risk stages and encouraging customer feedback. The proposed methodology is based on the execution of three stages: Development Feasibility, Incremental and Iterative Prototyping, and Medical Product Consolidation. All this is completed in compliance with the applicable regulations. The methodology mentioned above is validated through practical use cases in which the development of a wearable device for monitoring vital signs is the most relevant. The presented use cases sustain the proposed methodology, for the devices were successfully CE marked. Moreover, ISO 13485 certification is obtained by following the proposed procedures.
