Antimony chalcogenides, including Sb 2 S 3 , Sb 2 Se 3 , and Sb 2 (S,Se) 3 , have been developed as attractive non-toxic and earth-abundant solar absorber candidates among the thin-film photovoltaic devices. Presently, a record certified power conversion efficiency of 10.5% has been demonstrated for antimony chalcogenide solar cells, which is significantly lower than that of Cu 2 (In,Ga)Se 2 (23.35%) and CdTe (22.1%) thin-film solar cells. The inferior performance in antimony chalcogenide solar cells is mainly owing to a large open-circuit voltage (V OC ) deficit resulted from the defect and interface-assisted recombination. Herein, a comprehensive review on the recent advancements interface band alignment and defect passivation are carried out. This review will provide a solid understanding on the interfaces and defects of antimony chalcogenide solar cells, which is beneficial to the research and development of such kind of solar cells.

The exploitation of renewable energies despite their availability in domestic scale remains very insufficient. This is mainly due to three reasons. The first one is about the problem of intermittent power generation by solar and wind energy. The second problem is the high cost of traditional solar and wind installations. In addition, the third problem is the large space occupied by these systems. To help solve these problems and optimize the production of electricity and the space occupied, we proposed a compact system with flexible photovoltaic (PV) solar panels that automatically takes the shape of wind turbine blades named Savonius. This coupling ensures two modes of ecological production of green energy namely PV mode and wind turbine mode where these two technologies compensate to partially overcome the problem of intermittent and also save space. This is a new idea in the literature, unlike conventional hybrid systems which include wind turbines and PV solar panels separately. The proposed system is based on a management algorithm developed in MATLAB/Simulink and modeled with "Stateflow" which allows changing between the solar wind modes according of meteorological values.

Conduction Band Energy‐Level Engineering for Improving Open‐Circuit Voltage in Antimony Selenide Nanorod Array Solar Cells

Antimony selenide (Sb2Se3) nanorod arrays along the [001] orientation are known to transfer photogenerated carriers rapidly due to the strongly anisotropic one‐dimensional crystal structure. With advanced light‐trapping structures, the Sb2Se3 nanorod array‐based solar cells have excellent broad spectral response properties, and higher short‐circuit current density than the conventional planar structured thin film solar cells. However, the interface engineering for the Sb2Se3 nanorod array‐based solar cell is more crucial to increase the performance, because it is challenging to coat a compact buffer layer with perfect coverage to form a uniform heterojunction interface due to its large surface area and length–diameter ratio. In this work, an intermeshing In2S3 nanosheet‐CdS composite as the buffer layer, compactly coating on the Sb2Se3 nanorod surface is constructed. The application of In2S3‐CdS composite buffers build a gradient conduction band energy configuration in the Sb2Se3/buffer heterojunction interface, which reduces the interface recombination and enhances the transfer and collection of photogenerated electrons. The energy‐level regulation minimizes the open‐circuit voltage deficit at the interfaces of buffer/Sb2Se3 and buffer/ZnO layers in the Sb2Se3 solar cells. Consequently, the Sb2Se3 nanorod array solar cell based on In2S3‐CdS composite buffers achieves an efficiency of as high as 9.19% with a VOC of 461 mV.
