Aims This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency and influencing factors of surgical ward nursing. Background High‐quality development of public hospitals and implementation of nursing fine management require improvements to promote nursing efficiency. Method This study examined input data, such as number of beds, nurses, and nursing hours, and output data on discharged person‐times, surgical output, and case mix index of released patients, in 40 surgical wards in China between September 2020 and August 2021. Nursing efficiency was assessed and analysed using data envelopment analysis, and changes in efficiency were dynamically evaluated using the Malmquist index analysis. Results The average total technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency, and scale efficiency were 78%, 94%, and 82%, respectively. In addition, 81% and 67% of surgical wards had input redundancy and output insufficiency, respectively. The monthly average total factor productivity was 118%, and the overall efficiency increased month after month. Conclusion Overall, nursing service efficiency was low, which was limited by scale efficiency, pure technical efficiency, or both. Implications for Nursing Management Data envelopment analysis could help nursing managers optimize nursing human resource allocation and nursing performance allocation.

The efficient allocation of sports resources for optimal outcomes remains a pressing national endeavour in China. Over the past two decades, substantial investments by provincial and national governments have been directed toward sports infrastructure development. This initiative aims to foster sports talent, facilitate excellence, host major sporting events, and enhance national pride and soft power. This study employs a comprehensive methodology encompassing Data Envelopment Analysis-Slack Based Measure (DEA-SBM), Meta Frontier Analysis, and Malmquist Productivity Index to assess Sports Resource Utilization Efficiency (SRUE), Technological Gap Ratio (TGR), and Productivity Growth (MI) across China’s 31 provinces and 3 distinct regions for the period 2010–2021. The findings indicate that China’s average SRUE stands at 0.6307, revealing an inefficiency of 36.93% in sports resource utilization. Noteworthy efficiency was observed in Beijing, Chongqing, Henan, Shaanxi, Shanghai, and Tianjin during the study duration. Furthermore, a consistent upward trajectory in SRUE from 2010 to 2021 highlights gradual and sustained progress. Comparatively, the eastern region showcases higher technological advancement (average TGR of 0.7598) than the central and western regions. The Malmquist Productivity Index (MI), with an average value of 1.05391, highlights a substantial 5.39% productivity growth. Notably, technological advancement emerges as the primary driver of this productivity increase, evident through the higher Total Factor Productivity Change (TC) of 1.0312 compared to the Efficiency Change (EC) of 1.0209. The Central region’s outperforming productivity growth is noteworthy relative to the Eastern and Western regions. Conclusively, the Kruskal-Wallis test confirms significant disparities in the average MI, EC, TC, and TGR among all three regions of China.

The profound impact of deep learning technology is poised to revolutionize various industries, marking the fourth industrial revolution. Thus, we combined efficiency and productivity research (data envelopment analysis, DEA), artificial intelligence and deep learning (artificial neural networks, ANN), a system integrating DEA and ANNs, and simultaneous longitudinal research (time series) to determine comprehensive research trends and create relevant applications. We addressed mega-sports events’ performance assessment systems that predict the efficiency of nations participating in the Asian Games from 1990 to 2023 and analyzed the outcomes, applying them to practical issues of national sports policies and development. Performance assessment systems to diagnose, plan, monitor, and revise the impact of implementing measures in Asian nations represent a step forward. The PAS findings point out future research recommendations by addressing national sports policies and development issues, transforming the predictions of performance assessment systems in mega-sports events into practical management recommendations. In this way, the system for enhanced predictive analytics developed in the study can rapidly analyze large, medium, and small datasets, reveal insights that humans may overlook, and refine the likelihood of predicting future events with greater precision and accuracy.
