A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of some insecticides viz., Emamectin benzoate 5% SG (11 ga.i./ha), imidacloprid 17.8% SL (22.5 g a.i/ha), Neem oil (3 ml/l), Beauveria bassiana (0.2 ml/l), fipronil 5% SC (50 g a.i/ha) against major pests of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). There were six treatments arranged in randomized block design with four replications. Fruit borer, whiteflies, aphids and leaf miner were found to be the major insect pests of tomato. Among the insecticide used, imidacloprid 17.8% SL was found to be the most effective for management of sucking pest viz., Whiteflies, Aphids, Thrips, Mealybugs, Jassids while emamectin benzoate was found more effective on tomato fruit borer. Beauveria bassiana was found least effective against all the insect pests.

Sublethal dilutions exhibited hormoligosis when they were exposed to the different levels of pesticides. The present study was designed to check the efficacy and hormoligosis of fenoxycarb on four generations of cotton mealybug. The experiment was performed in the laboratory conditions at department of Entomology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. After 3 days, treatments showed statistically considerable differences (P ˂ 0.05) and maximum mortality was recorded at the highest dose level of fenoxycarb. After 7 days, the treatments had significant differences (P ˂ 0.05). The greater mortality (89.02%), fecundity (143.66%) and longevity (39.62%) was recorded at a concentration of fenoxycarb 2.4%. Laboratory bioassay showed that after 3 days of experiment, fenoxycarb was less effective at concentration LC10 (0.17 ppm) (0.03-0.36), while after 7-days result was LC10 (0.08 ppm) (0.05-0.12). The 1 st instar showed maximum mortality at the concentration (LC50 = 10.02%). The maximum fecundity and longevity were found in control. The sex ratio was higher in control while the minimum at (LC10 = 0.17%). At 3 days, hormoligosis was observed in fecundity at LC10 (0.17%) in G1 (52.28) and in G4 (58.27) while LC50 (10.02%) in G1 (37.84) and G4 (42.73). At 7 days PAI of LC10 (0.01%) in G1 (58.61) and in G4 (63.50) while LC50 (0.39%) in G1 HIGHLIGHTS• This manuscript highlights the application of fenoxycarb for the effective control of cotton mealybug. • Use of sub-lethal dosage to evaluate the resistance development of insecticide.• These results can be helpful for the dose selection during control in the fields, so that resistance can be reduced against pesticides.

“…Abd El-Mageed et al, (2018) concluded that chlorpyrifos was significantly the most effective in reducing the cotton mealybug population followed by imidacloprid, emamectin benzoate and buprofezin with average reduction between (96, 24 and 43.99%). Our results were in agreement with the result obtained by El-Zahi et al, (2016) where they studied the efficacy of eight toxic products belonging to different chemical groups against mealybug P. solenopsis on cotton under field conditions and found that methomyl imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and chlorpyrifos had the highest efficacy against P. solenopsis recording 92.3 to 80.4 reduction of the insect population.…”

Field experiments were carried out at Sidi-Salem district, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, Egypt during seasons 2017 and 2018 to evaluate the efficacy of nine chemical compounds viz., thiamethoxam, acetamiprid, flonicamid, emamectin benzoate, methomyl, alpha-cypermethrin, profenofos, Kz-oil, and detergent soap against the cotton mealybug, Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley. The side effects of the tested compounds on the associated predators were studied as well. The obtained results revealed that profenofos and thiamethoxam were the most affective against cotton mealybug recording 82 and 79.4 % reduction respectively as mean of effect during 10 days experiment period in 2017. In 2018, thiamethoxam was the most potent followed by flonicamid and profenofos causing mean of reduction percentage in mealybug population by 78, 76 and 74, respectively. Whereas, emamectin benzoate, Kz-oil, and detergent soap had the lowest activity against mealybug in both seasons of study. The other tested compounds indicated a moderate toxicity. Concerning the side effects on the associated predators, profenofos, alpha-cypermethrin, thiamethoxam and flonicamid were the most harmful to Chrysoperla carnea Steph., and Coccinella undecimpunctata Linnaeus, recording more than 50 % mean of reduction. On the other hand, emamectin benzoate, Kz-oil, and detergent proved to be the most harmless to both predators having less than 25 % mean of reduction in the predators population.
