“…The antibody, cPiPP, is a chimeric recombinant anti-hCGβ antibody engineered from a mouse monoclonal antibody raised against hCGβ [22]. The heavy chain variable region gene of a mouse monoclonal antibody [26] was fused to the human IgG 1 constant region, while the light chain variable region gene was fused to the human kappa constant region.…”

“…Both synthesize and expose hCG on their membranes. A recombinant chimeric anti-hCG antibody, cPiPP, developed earlier [22], binds with over 95% of MOLT-4 cells as determined by flow cytometery [23]. On the other hand, this antibody exhibited no binding to peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of normal healthy donors [23].…”

“…PiPP was converted into a recombinant chimeric antibody (cPiPP) as described elsewhere. 40 Recombinant antibodies for clinical therapeutic use in humans are expressed in low yields in mammalian cells, which accounts for their high cost. To cut costs, cPIPP was expressed as a periplasmic protein in tobacco leaves at a high yield of 20 mg of purified protein per Kg fresh tobacco leaves.…”
