Efficacy of Continuous Performance Testing in Adult ADHD in a Clinical Sample Using QbTest+

Abstract: Objective: Continuous performance tests are widely used to aid diagnostic decision making and measure symptom reduction in adult ADHD clinical populations. The diagnostic accuracy of the Quantified Behavior Test plus (QbTest+), developed to identify ADHD populations as an objective measure of ADHD symptoms, was explored. Methods: The utility of the QbTest+ was investigated in a clinical cohort of 69 adult patients referred to a specialist ADHD clinic in the UK. Results: Scores from the QbTest+ failed to differ… Show more

“…Ten studies with a control arm design were identified (Adamou et al, 2022;Bijlenga et al, 2019;Brunkhorst-Kanaan et al, 2020;Edebol et al, 2012Edebol et al, , 2013Emser et al, 2018;Groom et al, 2016;Hult et al, 2018;Pettersson et al, 2018;Söderström et al, 2014) (Table 2). All 10 studies assessed the ability of QbTest to discriminate between an ADHD population and one or more control populations.…”

“…Four studies reported data for a normative control population (two studies reported for a disconfirmed clinical population and two studies reported for confirmed differential diagnosis) (Bijlenga et al, 2019;Edebol et al, 2012Edebol et al, , 2013Emser et al, 2018). Six of the studies were conducted at a secondary or tertiary care facility (Adamou et al, 2022;Brunkhorst-Kanaan et al, 2020;Groom et al, 2016;Hult et al, 2018;Pettersson et al, 2018;Söderström et al, 2014). Consequently, these 10 studies were included in the analysis of weighted average for sensitivity and specificity.…”

“… 20 Additionally, there are concerns about QbTest identifying ADHD in clinical samples. 21 However, these studies used QbTest independently of other clinical information. QbTest is not designed to act as a ‘stand-alone’ tool; the US Food and Drug Administration approved QbTest as a decision-aid tool to augment, but not replace, standard clinical assessment of ADHD by a trained practitioner.…”

“…In studies designed to assess ‘stand-alone’ diagnostic accuracy, QbTest has only moderate sensitivity and low specificity to ADHD 20. Additionally, there are concerns about QbTest identifying ADHD in clinical samples 21. However, these studies used QbTest independently of other clinical information.…”
