The gas–liquid flow characteristics for blade, single, and the double-helical swirl elements were numerically investigated and compared in this work. The Euler–Euler model assuming bi-modal bubble size distributions was used. The experiment, conducted in a vertical pipe equipped with a static blade swirl element, was used as the basis for the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. In the experiment, high-resolution gamma-ray computed tomography (HireCT) was used to measure the gas volume fractions at several planes within the blade swirl element. The resulting calculated profiles of the pressure, liquid and gas velocities as well as the gas fraction showed a large influence of the swirl elements’ geometry. The evolution and characteristics of the calculated gas–liquid phase distributions in different measurement planes were found to be unique for each type of swirl element. A single gas core in the center of the pipe was observed from the simulation of the blade element, while multiple cores were observed from the simulations of the single and double helix elements. The cross-sectional gas distribution downstream of the single and double helical elements changed drastically within a relatively short distance downstream of the elements. In contrast, the single gas core downstream of the blade element was more stable.

Chemical responses are investigated as a piece of the modern applications like hydrometallurgical industry, food processing, and polymer production. Numerous chemical responding structures consolidate homogeneous and heterogeneous response and it is especially eccentric. Hence, this paper explains how the hybrid nanoliquid flow is handy in accelerate the thermochemical possessions of the base fluid in existence of homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. Here, three different types of hybrid nanoliquid used are copper-Al 2 O 3 / water, silver-Al 2 O 3 /water, and gold-Al 2 O 3 /water. Outcoming differential systems are resolved numerically by adopting fourth-order and fifth-order Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method. To get better view of the topic, the flow field, temperature behavior, and concentration curves are investigated for particular estimations of critical elements. The results predict that gold-Al 2 O 3 / water nanoliquid has good impact of heat rate coefficient and further porosity parameter decelerates the velocity and accelerates the temperature of the hybrid nanofluid. Introducing passive devices in the form of inserts helps to increase the heat transfer characteristics in a circular pipe. In the present work, the feasibility of using two twisted tapes has been numerically studied under laminar flow conditions. Two twisted tapes with configurations of co‐swirl and counter‐swirl conditions were simulated for Re ranging from 1000 to 2500. Heat transfer characteristics like Nusselt number, friction factor, and thermohydraulic performance index (THPI) were investigated. Even the effect of spacing of the tubes inside the pipe was numerically studied. Results indicated that the insertion of two tapes will improve the performance of the circular tube compared with a single tape in terms of a higher Nu and higher THPI. It is observed that for the co‐swirl condition for a Reynolds number of 1000, Nu and THPI is 38% and 29% higher than using a single tape, whereas, for the counter‐swirl condition, they are 43% and 34% higher than that of the single tape condition. Also, it is revealed that counter swirl positioning of the tape with an L/D ratio 0.56 outperformed all other configurations with the highest THPI.
