“…While both authors described that PPP and PRP reduced tear through, a lighting effect on periorbital dark circles was only noticed by Neinaa et al . [ 21 ] In both studies, the direct comparison between the visual impact of PPP and PRP seemed to favor the former. Treatment with PPP was associated with 10% severe and 17.5% moderate complications.…”

“…PRP has been proposed to decrease pigmentation by inhibiting prostaglandin‐E2 expression and tyrosinase activity, potentially suggesting a role for PRP in treating PIH 28 . A recent split‐faced study evaluating the role of PRP in periorbital hyperpigmentation suggests a role for PRP as an alternative treatment option for hyperpigmentation in those who cannot tolerate chemical peels 29,30 31,32 .…”

“…28 A recent split-faced study evaluating the role of PRP in periorbital hyperpigmentation suggests a role for PRP as an alternative treatment option for hyperpigmentation in those who cannot tolerate chemical peels. 29,30 TXA has also been shown to be efficacious in treating melasma due to its tyrosinase inhibitory activity with oral TXA 500mg twice daily showing improvement in melasma severity without significant adverse events, which suggests it may have a role in other pigmentation disorders like PIH. 31,32 Lastly, botanical products such as bakuchiol, an extract from the tree Psoralea corylifolia, which has been found to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative properties, have also gained popularity in the treatment of PIH.…”
