“…We included 116 studies (115 papers) in the systematic review. Of these, 50 were conducted in hospital settings , 24 were delivered in a community setting , seven were delivered in military clinics for veterans or active military personnel [103][104][105][106][107][108][109], five were conducted in refugee camps [110][111][112][113][114], four used remote delivery via web-based or telephone platforms [115][116][117][118], four were conducted in specialist trauma clinics [119][120][121][122], two were delivered in home settings [123,124], and two were delivered in primary care clinics [125,126]; clinical setting was not reported in 17 studies [127][128][129][130][131][132][133][134][135][136][137][138][139][140][141][142][143].…”

“…Compared with younger cohorts, older adults present higher arousal and lower avoidance levels. 4 Preliminary controlled trials on the efficacy of trauma-focused interventions for older adultssample mean ages from 57 to 71 years [5][6][7][8] revealed mixed results for PTSD. The experimental interventions included narrative exposure therapy (NET), virtual reality exposure therapy and therapist-guided internetbased therapy; the controls included psychoeducation, wait lists and present-centred therapy (PCT), originally developed as Present Centered Therapy.…”

“…This RCT is, to our knowledge, the first to investigate a psychotherapy programme for Holocaust survivors, and the third to investigate a PTSD treatment approach in old age. The two previous RCTs investigated an internet-based writing therapy called Integrative Testimonial Therapy (ITT) with WWII survivors combining cognitive-behavioural and life review elements [8,9] and a prolonged exposure therapy with older veterans with military service-related PTSD [10,11]. While the latter did not try to modify the prolonged exposure approach to this age group, ITT integrates trauma-focused and life review elements, which is similar in our approach.…”

“…We identified two RCTs that examined this age group. An internet-based writing therapy called Integrative Testimonial Therapy (ITT) with WWII survivors combining cognitive-behavioural and life review elements found moderate decreases in PTSD symptoms [8,9]. A prolonged exposure therapy with older veterans with PTSD as a result of their military service found treatment gains from pre-to posttest, but those gains were lost in the follow-up [10,11].…”
