Effects of β-glucan on ROS production and energy metabolism in yellow croaker (Pseudosciaena crocea) under acute hypoxic stress

Abstract: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of β-glucan on acute hypoxia-induced oxidative stress and the changes in energy metabolism by determining ROS production, activities and mRNA levels of energy metabolism enzyme (PK, F-ATPase, SDH and MDH), and in gene expression of HIF-1α in the liver of large yellow croaker. Fish were injected with β-glucan at a dose of 0 or 5 mg kg(-1) body weight on 6, 4 and 2 days before exposed to 1.5 and 7.0 mg DO L(-1) for 48 h. The results showed that β-glucan enh… Show more

“…All of these antioxidant tools are contributed in scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS), the excessive exposure of which causes oxidative stress in the host's cells, and then produce a lot of MDAm, which is one of the most important lipid-oxidation products and an important indicator of peroxidative tissue injury (Janero, 1990). A substantial reduction in MDA was seen in the fishfed BG diet, which agrees with our findings (Kim et al, 2009;Zeng et al, 2016;Zhu and Wu, 2018). corollary, the current data could point to BG supplementation having a positive impact on liver function and tissue peroxidation.…”

“…Where the rise in MDA level in PMN group, could clarified due to PMN‐induced production of enormous free radicals that develops the hepatic oxidative procedure, further provokes a decrease in the commotions of antioxidant enzyme catalysts by stopping the manufacture of the enzymes (Hamed & El‐Sayed, 2019). Supplementation with βG adjusted the lifted level of MDA in tilapia exposed to PMN protect tilapias from lipid peroxidation and correction in SOD and CAT (Dietrich‐Muszalska et al., 2011; Zeng et al., 2016). Gene expression of the SOD and CAT conform to these observations.…”
