Effects of Woven Fabric Construction and Color on Ultraviolet Protection

Abstract: This paper presents the effects of woven fabric construction and color on the ultraviolet protection factor. Weave type, fabric tightness, cover factor, volume porosity and color of lightweight summer woven fabrics were observed in this research. Color had the biggest influence on the ultraviolet protection factor of fabrics, whereas woven fabric construction was essential when light pastel colored fabrics were used as ultraviolet protection. This work provides guidelines for engineering woven cotton fabrics w… Show more

“…Samples 5 and 6 were weaved in twill weave and had the same monofilament diameters as the samples 1-4; however, their declared density was higher (180 and 190 yarns/cm) ( Figure One-layered woven fabrics consist of two different parts in their structure, usually described by the open area and the cover factor [1][2][3]. The extended version of the cover factor theory also presents the area covered by one yarn and the area covered by two yarns in a fabric's structure ( Figure 1).…”

“…Many researchers have investigated the influence of different factors related to the textile materials used for UV protection. They have investigated the influence of type of material [1,2], fabric constructions [1,[3][4][5], colors, and different additives [6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…У дослідженнях [11,12] наведені результати щодо впливу типу переплетення, щільності, коефіцієнта покриття, порової структури та кольору бавовняної тканини на фактор захисту текстильного матеріалу від ультрафіолету. Встановлено, що саме колір бавовняної тканини найбільше впливає на фактор ультрафіолетового захисту та наведені рекомендації з проектування тканих бавовняних текстильних матеріалів з достатнім показником захисту від ультрафіолету.…”

“…Th e research in this fi eld has so far been conducted mainly on one-layer fabrics, taking into consideration the infl uence of altering various construction parameters, e.g. fi bre composition, yarn fi neness and density, and weave [8,10,11]. Since these studies have been performed on construction-wise very diff erent samples (i.e.…”
