Effects of welding environment on microstructure and mechanical properties of friction stir welded AZ91C magnesium alloy joints

Abstract: Friction stir welding is a solid state, environment friendly and energy efficient welding process for joining many engineering alloys including magnesium alloys. In this study, the effect of different cooling rates on microstructural and mechanical properties of friction stir welded AZ91C magnesium alloy was investigated. AZ91C magnesium samples were friction stir welded in air as well as in water. The effects of submerging environment on tensile and hardness properties of samples were discussed. The results s… Show more

“…The best alternative approach in this regard would be to recycle the wastes generated by the industries (Velosa et al, 2013;Yuvaraj et al, 2015;Saini et al, 2015). Many nations including developing ones such as India are constantly working in this direction by encouraging the researchers and scientists to use more and more recycled products (Rouhi et al, 2015;Rana et al, 2017;Kurt et al, 2016). There are many benefits of recycling the wastes some of them are less pollution, conservation of natural sources, which are replenishing very fast, and of course, there would be less investment of capital (Huang et al, 2018;Hamdollahzadeh et al, 2015).…”

“…Friction stir welding (FSW) is a revolutionary welding technology invented by The Welding Institute in the 1990s. It is especially suitable for welding aluminium alloys [ 1 , 2 ], and is widely used in aerospace, ships and pressure vessels. Fatigue fracture is the main failure form of welded structural parts.…”
