“…Na V 1.6 +/+ ) but not Na V 1.6‐null mice (i.e. Na V 1.6 −/− ), similar to the contractions induced by veratrine (a mixture of alkaloid esters, including veratridine, cevadine, cevine, cevadilline, and sabadine) detected by Chen et al. (2002).…”

“…We have known that neurotransmitters release in the nervous endings required extracellular calcium influx via calcium channel [12, 13]. In previous studies, paeoniflorin inhibited calcium influx and blocked intracellular calcium movement [15-20]. We would suggest that the effects of paeoniflorin on the central nervous system might mediate by the inhibition of intracellular calcium flux.…”

“…The L-type voltage-sensitive calcium channel involves in noradrenaline release in the rat brain [14]. From previous studies, paeoniflorin inhibited calcium influx and blocked intracellular calcium movement [15-20]. The antinociceptive responses of L-arginine were decreased by the L-type calcium channel antagonists, diltiazem or verapamil [21].…”

“…Our previous study (Luo et al, 2009) confirmed that in vitro, paeoniflorin could also relax HC rabbit SO muscle rings. Chen et al (2002) proved that paeoniflorin inhibited tetanic contractions of vas deferens, epididymis and prostate smooth muscle of rats, inhibited in vitro intestine and in vivo stomach movement of cavies and rats, as well as uterine smooth muscle of rats, and could antagonize oxytocin-induced contraction. Also, paeoniflorin showed synergism with methanol extract of licorice (FM100).…”
