Abstract:Effects of the cultivation of barley between rows of spring onion or holly basil around the farming fields on the density of ground wondering predators were investigated using pitfall traps. The barley attracted ground beetles such as Chlaenius micans and spiders such as Pardosa pseudoannulata to the fields. On the other hand, the holly basil had no such attracting effects; it decreased the density of spiders and the earwig Labidura riparia.
