Effects of various media on micellization, adsorption and thermodynamic behaviour of imipramine hydrochloride and antimicrobial surfactant mixtures

Abstract: The effect of various media (aqueous, NaCl, urea (U) and thiourea (TU)) on the micellization and adsorption activity of varied mixtures of imipramine hydrochloride (IMP) and benzethonium chloride (BZCl) is investigated via tensiometry. In an aqueous medium, the interactions between IMP and BZCl are also evaluated using UV–visible and FTIR spectroscopy. The interaction between components increases with increased mole fraction ( α 1 ) of BZCl in the mixed system (IMP + BZCl). … Show more

“…The likelihood of chemical surfactants penetrating through skin layers and causing denaturation of proteins, hypersensitivity, or skin inflammation is greatly influenced by the physical nature of the surfactants in solution (whether they exist as monomers or micelles) as well as their concentration [ 46 , 49 ]. Micelles are produced once monomers of surfactant aggregate at a specific concentration and temperature in a solution.…”

“…The biosurfactant's production cost heavily depends on the medium's components, particularly C and N sources. In recent years, various cheap resources, like food industry waste products like a distillery, cooking/frying oils, sugarcane bagasse, and oil derived from vegetable and plant sources, have been promoted as C and N sources as an individual or mixture with the relatively stable resource [46,53,54] . By using these substrates, it may be possible to reduce or eliminate the need for a significant portion of the funding currently earmarked for biosurfactant production facilities.…”

[46,53,54] By using these substrates, it may be possible to reduce or eliminate the need for a significant portion of the funding currently earmarked for biosurfactant production facilities. Vegetable oil and petroleum substrates are cost-effective and fruitful for substantial biosurfactant production, especially from Candida, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas species.…”

“…Generally, surfactant molecules can be characterized into four categories: nonionic, anionic, cationic and amphipathic. Their nature depends on the charge of the hydrophilic head group [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. Because of the dual nature of a surfactant system, they differ from other surface-active materials.…”

“…Today, surfactants have numerous uses in various applications, including chemicals used daily, micellar catalysis, pharmaceutics, drug delivery, paintings and corrosion treatments. [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. These applications require a better understanding and evaluation of the critical micelle concentration (CMC).…”
