Effects of various levels of organic acids and of virginiamycin on performance, blood parameters, immunoglobulins and microbial population of broiler chicks

Abstract: This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of various levels of organic acids and virginiamycin on performance, blood parameters, immunoglobulin and microbial population of broiler chickens. This trial was conducted in a completely randomized design using five treatments and four replicates. The dietary treatments included a control diet without additives, diets containing 0.05%, 0.10% and 0.15% mixtures of organic acids, and a diet containing virginiamycin as an antibiotic. Based on the results,… Show more

“…Owing to these facts, the synergistic effect of fermented turmeric and black pepper seemed to be attributed to the lipid-lowering activity of the herbal mixture as the individual use of fermented turmeric or black pepper powder resulted only in moderate decrease in cholesterol and LDL levels in the present study. Another possibilities could be that the high acidity in the herbal mixture may reduce blood lipid of broilers as Moghadam et al (2009) and Ghazvinian et al (2018) noticed that feeding organic acid decreased total triglyceride, cholesterol and LDL in chicken blood. It was apparent in the present investigation that T3 birds had lower serum total protein at day 35.…”

“…The gradual ban of antibiotics in animal feed due to their health hazards to both animal and human consumers of animal products has increased the research interest into natural products with antimicrobial activity [1,2]. The use of medicinal herbs and their extracts as natural growth promoters in poultry diets has been reported [3,4,5].…”

“…All the diets were based on corn-soybean and were arranged based on the advice of Ross Company to meet the nutrient requirements of the chickens (Ghazvinian et al, 2018). The User-Friendly Feed Formulation, Done Again (UFFDA) software was used to formulate the diets.…”
