“…There was a substantial decrease in CAT activity between the treatment and control groups (p < 0.05). The reduction of CAT activity in the liver varies considerably between treatment groups at p < 0.05, with the effect of suppression being most noticeable at the lowest dose (50 g/L) 71 . The apparent decrease in CAT behaviour implies that the produced H 2 O 2 may not be quickly destroyed by CAT, indicating a redox imbalance in the cell.…”

“…Yoon et al (2017) showed that TCS induces oxidative stress and intracellular accumulation of toxins, at least in part, by disrupting the SKN-1/Nrf2-mediated oxidative stress response, specifically by inhibiting the nuclear localization of SKN-1/Nrf2 and the expression of its target genes, in both a model organism, the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans and human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) [ 233 ]. A recent study on mosquitofish ( Gambusia affinis ) that were exposed to TCS showed that the up-regulations Sirt1 and Sirt2 in Sirtuin family could activate the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway and the down-regulations of miR-34b and the up-regulations of miR-34a , miR-144, and miR153a-5p modulated the Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway [ 234 ]. Sublethal concentrations of TCS enhanced glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), and glutathione-S-transferase enzyme activity in all the tissues with an increased dose and exposure period in the gill, liver, and muscle of an Indian major carp Catla catla [ 235 ].…”

“…On contrary, long-term triclosan exposure has been shown to induce liver weight with concomitant accumulation of a large number of lipid droplets, thereby caused deleterious effects on liver growth and development in zebrafish (Liu et al, 2019). Triclosan exposure caused tissue-specific hepatotoxicity in the adult mosquitofish, Gambusia affinis by interrupting many biological pathways associated with lipogenesis and lipid metabolism, transmembrane transporters, protein synthesis and carbohydrate metabolism (Song et al, 2021), and these transcriptional responses are mediated through RedoximiRs/Sirtuin/Nrf2/ARE signalling pathway (Bao, He, et al, 2021). The variation in the age, size, species, concentration of the toxicant, duration of exposure and so on, could be the reasons for the variation in the organ toxicity.…”
