“…However most of the initial titania reacted with alumina during the deposition process, leading to the formation of aluminium titanate (Al 2 TiO 5 ). This phenomenon has been previously reported for APS alumina-titania coatings with different TiO 2 content [38,40].…”

“…It has been shown that the addition of TiO 2 improves the coating fracture toughness in conventional APS coatings [36], usually obtained from fusing and crushing powders, as well as in coatings from nanostructured feedstocks which are commonly obtained by simple mixture of the oxides [37]. Indeed Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 coatings obtained by APS from both conventional feedstocks and agglomerated powders has been extensively studied [38][39][40][41][42][43][44]. However, the research on SPS Al 2 O 3 -TiO 2 is still incipient and very few authors have studied such layers [45].…”

“…The plasma sprayed coatings exhibit separate phases of Al 2 O 3 and understoichiometric TiO 2 as can be seen in micrographs. No forming of tialite (Al 2 TiO 5 ) has been observed, as could be expected from some studies presented in the literature [33].…”

“…The test was conducted under following conditions: applied constant load of 10 N, radius from the center of the sample to pin of 6 mm, rotational speed of 60 rpm, duration of 1000s. AT-P0 and AT-P5 were composed of γ-Al 2 O 3 and Al 2 TiO 5 phases, along with compounds of AlPO 4 and Al(PO 3 ) 3 . However, the characteristic peaks of α-Al 2 O 3 phase do not appear in XRD spectrum of AT-P5.…”
