Effects of the dietary inclusion of a probiotic or prebiotic on florfenicol pharmacokinetic profile in broiler chicken

Abstract: We evaluated the effect of prebiotic or probiotic as feed additives on florfenicol kinetic in broilers feed. Unsexed two hundred, thirty‐five‐day‐old broiler chickens, were put in four equal groups (n = 50). The first group was administrated florfenicol intravenous at 30 mg/kg body weight (BW) only once dosage without pre‐ or probiotic administration to determine the bioavailability. While, the second group was administrated florfenicol (intracrop routes; a dosage of 30 mg/kg BW for five progressive days) with… Show more

“…Feed additives are generally considered materials used to enhance the effectiveness of nutrients and exert their effects on improving poultry performance (Ashour et al., 2020; Farag & Alagawany, 2019; Saeed, Alagawany, et al., 2019). There are a number of feed additives used in poultry feed, such as antibiotics, probiotics, oligosaccharides, enzymes and organic acids (Bin‐Jumah et al., 2020; Elgeddawy et al., 2020; Hussein et al., 2020; Windisch et al., 2008). They are included in the diet of poultry and animals for promoting growth through their potential effect in increasing feed intake (FI; Demir et al, 2003; Mahrose et al., 2019; Wang et al., 2019; Yatoo et al., 2017).…”

“…They include nutrients and non-nutrients, like amino acids, minerals, vitamins, fatty acids, enzymes, prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, pigments, medicinal herbs, herbal extracts, antioxidants, organic acids, flavouring agents, etc. (Narahari 2014;Alagawany et al 2018a;Elgeddawy et al 2020). Nutraceuticals have been in focus in poultry science quite recently due to the nutritional and healthier properties of feed ingredients and the adverse effects of chemical pharmaceuticals like antibiotic resistance and drug residues (Elnesr et al 2019a(Elnesr et al , 2020.…”
