Effects of the Contents of Various Solvents in One-step Self-etch Adhesives on Shear Bond Strengths to Enamel and Dentin

Abstract: Aim:The aim of this study was to evaluate the shear bond strengths (SBSs) of one-step self-etch adhesives containing different co-solvents to enamel and dentin and to determine the failure modes of tested specimens. Materials and methods: Two hundred and forty (n = 240) sound human molars were used. The buccal surfaces of each tooth were ground and polished to obtain flat enamel surfaces (n = 120) or to expose the underlying dentin (n = 120). The specimens with exposed enamel or dentin were randomly divided in… Show more

“…The effectiveness of self-etch adhesive systems can vary due to factors such as composition ( Cuevas-Suarez and Luiz, 2019 , Ageel and Alqahtani, 2019 ) and shelf life ( Iliev et al, 2021 , Perdigão et al, 2021 ). The annual failure rate of one-step self-etch adhesives has been noted to be higher than that of two-step self-etch and etch-and-rinse adhesives ( Perdigao et al, 2009 ).…”

“…The location and extent of cervical defects determine the cavity surface with only enamel or combined enamel-dentin substrates. The structural difference between enamel and dentin surfaces influences the chemical and mechanical bond advancement with restorations ( Ageel & Alqahtani, 2019 ). Hence, the secondary caries location and its extent define the management methods ( Alomari et al, 2009 ).…”
