“…Different Bidens pilosa leaf extracts were tested on various smooth muscles. Its hypotensive effect on hypertensive induced rats (Dimo et al, 1998;Dimo et al, 2001; Dimo et al, 2003) and, its relaxant effect was also showed on isolated rat vascular smooth muscle (Nguelefack et al, 2005). Its antisecretory and antiulcerogenic properties on various gastric ulcers models in rat showed that the methylene chloride extract is the most potent inhibitor of gastric mucosal lesions caused by HCl/ethanol, and that the extract does not possess anti-secretory potential, and tended to increase gastric acidity when gastric outflow is obstructed by ligature; a possible cytoprotective action mediated by the cytoprotective action of endogenous prostaglandins was also demonstrated (Tan et al, 2000).…”

“…Recently, B. pilosa has been the subject of various laboratory studies due to its wide use in herbal medicine. Its antihypertensive activity against salt and fructose-induced hypertension was demonstrated (Dimo et al, 1999;2001). Also, in 1998, Dimo et al reported that the leaf aqueous extract possesses aortic smooth muscle relaxant activity.…”

“…Also, in 1998, Dimo et al reported that the leaf aqueous extract possesses aortic smooth muscle relaxant activity. A research group in our laboratory has demonstrated its gastric cytoprotective action against various experimental ulcer models in rats (Tan et al, 2001). Phytochemical studies of B. pilosa have revealed the presence of alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, polyacetylenes and triterpenes (Hoffmann and Hölzl, 1988), phenylheptatriyne, linoleic acid and and exsanguinated by carotid artery section.…”

“…Numerous drugs from plants have also been used in the treatment of hypertension. Solanum sisymbriifolium (Ibarrol et al, 1996), Spergularia purpurea (Jouad et al, 2001), Croton schiedeanus (Guerrero et al, 2001), Bidens pilosa (Dimo et al, 2001), Stephaniae tetrandrae (RAO, 2002), Trigonella Foenum-greacum (Balaraman et al, 2006) are some of the plants used in hypertension.…”

“…increased BP in rats (Juann et al, 1988;Bunnag et al, 1997;Dimo et al, 2001). Chronic fructose feeding leads to insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinemia, hyperglycemia and hypertriglyceridemia in a relatively short time in normal rats (Zavaroni et al, 1980;Hwang et al, 1987;Erlich and Rosenthal, 1995).…”
