Effects of Temperature Change on the Soil Water Characteristic Curve and a Prediction Model for the Mu Us Bottomland, Northern China

Abstract: The soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) is the basis for obtaining the hydraulic conductivity parameters of a soil as well as for using soil water and heat transport models. At present, the curve can be obtained by two methods: by direct measurement and by empirical formula. Direct measurement is both difficult and time-consuming. By contrast, fitting the SWCC with a suitable empirical formula is stable and convenient. The van Genuchten (VG) model has the advantage of universal applicability due to its use … Show more

“…Studies have investigated the SWCC of various soils, including clay [22], sand [23], and expansive soils [11,24,25]. The influence of factors such as dry unit weight and the void ratio [25][26][27][28], gradation [28][29][30], and temperature [28,31] on SWCC have also been studied. Even small changes in soil density are known to have a significant impact on the hydro-mechanical properties of the soil.…”

“…In the era of big data, with the advancement of wireless communication, mobile computing and positioning technology, spatio-temporal information of real-life moving objects can already be easily obtained [1][2]. People's movement behavior data can be better collected by using cell phone location information, and the movement trajectory contains time data along with specific location data, so it is actually a kind of spatio-temporal data [3][4].…”

“…The parameters determined on the basis of the SWRC are used for any calculations of water movements in the unsaturated soil zone. For example, these parameters are the starting point for numerical simulations of the time variable water content and matric potential in the unsaturated soil zone (Ket et al 2018;Qiao et al 2019). The performance of the numerical simulations relies on the accuracy of the information from hydrological parameters.…”
