Recently identified zeolite precursors consisting of concentrated, hyposolvated homogeneous alkalisilicate liquids, hydrated silicate ionic liquids (HSIL), minimize correlation of synthesis variables and enable one to isolate and examine the impact of complex parameters such as water content on zeolite crystallization. HSIL are highly concentrated, homogeneous liquids containing water as a reactant rather than bulk solvent. This simplifies elucidation of the role of water during zeolite synthesis. Hydrothermal treatment at 170 °C of Al-doped potassium HSIL with chemical composition 0.5SiO2:1KOH:xH2O:0.013Al2O3 yields porous merlinoite (MER) zeolite when H2O/KOH exceeds 4 and dense, anhydrous megakalsilite when H2O/KOH is lower. Solid phase products and precursor liquids were fully characterized using XRD, SEM, NMR, TGA, and ICP analysis. Phase selectivity is discussed in terms of cation hydration as the mechanism, allowing a spatial cation arrangement enabling the formation of pores. Under water deficient conditions, the entropic penalty of cation hydration in the solid is large and cations need to be entirely coordinated by framework oxygens, leading to dense, anhydrous networks. Hence, the water activity in the synthesis medium and the affinity of a cation to either coordinate to water or to aluminosilicate decides whether a porous, hydrated, or a dense, anhydrous framework is formed.

The material yttrium aluminum oxide (Y3Al5O12) is one of the materials commonly used in laser devices. For application in optical devices, it is necessary to produce ultra-precise surface quality, however, Y3Al5O12 material belongs to the group of difficult-to-machine materials with high brittleness and hardness. Therefore, it is very difficult to ensure that the main criterion when finishing this material to produce a quality surface in the nanometer form with the ability to remove the material is very difficult. To solve this problem, this work provided a new chemical - mechanical polishing mixture. The proposed polishing mixture of ZrO2, Na2SiO3–5H2O, and MgO abrasives has a weight ratio of 8%, 5% and 1% respectively, with the remainder being deionized water. The surface result after polishing is obtained with a material removed rate of 38 (nm/min) along with an ultra-smooth surface produced with Ra = 0.41 nm. With the help of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) method before and after polishing by CMS, the reaction mechanisms were elucidated. Analytical results show that Y3Al5O12 material produces YOOH and AlOOH in Na2SiO3 solution, then combines with –Si–OH to form (Y-Si) and (Al-Si) with significantly reduced hardness compared to other Y3Al5O12 materials, these products combine with MgO to form montmorillonites (3MgO–Al2O3–3SiO2–3Y2O3–5Al2O3). With this formation, the surface layer of Y3Al5O12 material becomes soft and is easily removed by ZrO2 abrasive particles under the influence of mechanical polishing, resulting in superfine surfaces are generated from the proposed CMS model.

It is a great desire of advanced designed materials for electricity generation, storage, and utilization with boosted activity, multifunctionality, compatibility, stability, and durability. Organic ionic materials (OIMs) with superior conductivity, modifiability, and thermal/cold tolerance have great potential in meeting the demand. Ionic liquids, ionic polymers, polyelectrolytes, and new‐emerging composite materials like ionic gels, ionic woods, and metallated covalent organic frameworks have been boomingly developed in recent years, with elaborated design of which, enhanced performance of burgeoning energy materials such as higher electrical output, larger energy capacity, wider tolerance of temperature and/or humidity, and longer durability have been promoted. Despite a few reviews that have generalized the applications of single‐type OIMs in a certain field, there is a lack of comprehensive reviews focusing on advanced design of OIMs for boosting electricity generation, storage, and utilization. Herein, the new development of OIMs is timely and systematically reviewed focusing on electricity generation (generators), storage (batteries and supercapacitors), and utilization (sensors and actuators). Synthesis and modification strategies are summarized for material design, after which, fundamentals and mechanisms are illustrated as theoretical support. Then, advanced designs of OIMs are elaborated by taking electricity generation, storage, and utilization processes into consideration, followed by putting forward perspectives.
