Effects of sulphur on the yield, yield component characters and oil content of oilseed rape

Abstract: The effects of four sulphur levels: S0, S1, S2 and S3, including 0, 12, 24 and 36 kg S ha-1, respectively, along with 115 kg N ha-1 were studied on yield-related traits of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.). The significant variance of treatments was determined for plant height, yield component characters, seed yield and oil content. The sulphur application significantly increased most of the traits compared to the S0 level. The S3 (36 kg S ha-1) treatment led to the highest mean value of plant… Show more

“…In addition to these results may be due to the importance of sulfur for chlorophyll production where it has a vital role in cell division aided leaf growth and improved light absorption. (Rameeh et al 2021). Also, it promotes releasing nutrients Iron is an important nutrient for cell metabolism, chlorophyll production, photosynthesis, respiration and enzymes activity (Riki et al 2014).…”

“…The application of sulfur is vital for methionine and cysteine (a vitamin A component) synthesis, enhances some enzymes in the plant and chlorophyll synthesis (Waraich et al 2022). Also, it increases oil concentration in canola seeds as well as glycosylate content (Rameeh et al 2021). On the other hand, sulfur application significantly decreases soil pH which respectively improve nutrients availability in soil, enhance nutrients uptake by plant and finally improve yield productivity of plant (Abou Hussien et al 2020).…”

“…It makes some contributions to protein synthesis by orchestrating the folding and structural stability of a protein [6]. Some research showed the positive effect of sulfur on the yield of oil seed crops, such as groundnut [7], rapeseed [8], mustard [9], sesame [10], sunflower [11], and soybean [12,13]. Several field studies have demonstrated that the application of sulfur in conjunction with nitrogen in soybean fields has resulted in a significant increase in seed yield.…”
