The high‐temperature creep experiment of Ni‐based superalloy GH4169 under the constant loading and varying loading conditions was conducted by using the round bar specimens. The creep time‐strain curves under different loading conditions were obtained to study the high‐temperature creep behaviour of GH4169 superalloy. At the same time, the longitudinal and lateral sections near the fracture of creep specimens were observed by the optical microscope, and the specimens with smaller grain corresponded to the larger creep strain rate. In view of the dispersion of the creep curves, the corresponding data processing method was put forward, and on this basis, a model that can describe the 3 stages of creep with certain physical meaning was established. The simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental results, especially the creep deformation under the varying loading condition. The predicted results of the relative time hardening model are closer to the experiment compared with time hardening and strain hardening model. The creep model is realized by the user's material subroutine code in a commercial FEM software package, which can be used as the basis of creep analysis for engineering structures.

In this paper, the extended Direct Steady Cyclic Analysis method (eDSCA) within the Linear Matching Method Framework (LMMF) is combined with the Stress Modified Ductility Exhaustion method and the modified Cavity Growth Factor (CGF) for the first time. This new procedure is used to systematically investigate the effect of several load parameters including load level, load type and creep dwell duration on the creep–fatigue crack initiation process in a notched specimen. The results obtained are verified through a direct comparison with experimental results available in the literature demonstrating great accuracy in predicting the crack initiation life and the driving mechanisms. Furthermore, this extensive numerical study highlighted the possible detrimental effect of the creep–ratchetting mechanism on the crack growth process. This work has a significant impact on structural integrity assessments of complex industrial components and for the better understanding of creep–fatigue lab scale tests.

A number of measures of the creep-ductility of high temperature steels are reviewed with an ultimate focus on intrinsic creep-ductility. It is assumed that there will be a future requirement for the determination of long duration creep ductility values for design and product standards in the same way as there is currently for creep strength values. The determination of such information will require specialist modelling techniques to be applied to the complex nature of multi-temperature, multi-heat (multi-cast) data collations, and possible solutions are considered. In service, the exhaustion of creep-ductility is most likely to occur at stress concentrations, and for this, a knowledge of the multiaxial creep-ductility is required, and its relationship to uniaxial creep-ductility. Some practical applications requiring a knowledge of creep-ductility are reviewed.
