Effects of stearic acid on the interface and performance of polypropylene/superfine down powder composites

Abstract: To manufacture the hygroscopic sheets available for functional application, superfine down powder (SDP) and stearic acid modified superfine down powder (MSDP) were, respectively, blended and extruded with polypropylene (PP) to produce composite pellets, and the extruded pellets were hot-pressed into composite sheets. The chemical reaction between SDP and stearic acid was characterized using the attenuated total reflection attachment on the Fourier transform infrared. PP/MSDP composites showed more uniform powd… Show more

“…Literatürde hayvansal lifli kompozitlerin, biyomühendislik ve ortopedik uygulamalarda kullanıldığı görülmektedir [7]. Bitkisel lif içeren kompozitlerin aksine hayvansal esaslı lif içeren kompozitler ile yapılmış çalışmalar sınırlıdır [20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28].…”

“…. The spectral data of SDP showed the typical peaks at 2,930 and 1,645 cm −1 , which were corresponded to CH 2 ‐antisymmetrical stretching vibration and stretching vibration of CO, respectively . SDP revealed a wider absorption band between 3,100 and 3,700 cm −1 due to the stretching vibration of NH bonds and the moisture absorption on SDP surface, which was exposed to the atmosphere.…”

“…Another method is that down fiber was ground into superfine down powder (SDP), and then blended with synthetic polymer to prepare polymer composites directly. SDP sustains the excellent properties of protein materials and stable structure against high temperature, which is suitable for conventional process of polymer composites .…”

“…It can be used as filler to prepare the degradable composites. 8,9 Surface modification is an effective way to improve the performance and application of organic powder. [10][11][12] For example, it has been found that the surface modification of waxy maize starch can significantly improve the interface between starch and natural rubber.…”
