Effects of Stanniocalcin-1 on glucose flux in rat brown adipose tissue

Abstract: The present work assesses in vitro the role of human Stanniocalcin 1 (hSTC-1) in C-glucose metabolism in brown adipose tissue (BAT) from fed rat. In the fed state, hSTC-1 decreases the incorporation ofC from glucose into lipids in the rat BAT. The data support the hypothesis that the capacity of the glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P)-generating pathway (glycolysis) from glucose is regulated by hSTC-1, decreasing the adequate supply of G3P needed for fatty acid esterification and triacylglycerol (TG) storage in BAT. Th… Show more

[20][21][22] STC-1 is overexpressed in brain nerve cells and exerts protective effects against cellular hypoxic damage. 20,23 In a mouse model, STC-1 provided protection against renal ischaemia-reperfusion injury by regulating oxidative stress.…”

“…Besides being enriched in Agrp neurons in the Arc [77], nothing is known about the function of Acvr1c in the hypothalamus. Secreted proteins The secreted protein Stc1 codes for Stanniocalcin 1, involved in lipid synthesis in brown adipose tissue [149] and its mRNA is expressed very weakly in the LH and DMH in the hypothalamus (ABA). Another secreted protein, Cthrc1 (collagen triple-helix repeat-containing 1), shows expression in the LH (ABA) as well as in the PVN and SON and it regulates lipid storage and cellular glycogen levels [150].…”
