Effects of Solanum glaucophyllum toxicity on cell proliferation and apoptosis in the small and large intestine of rabbits

Abstract: Vitamin D regulates mineral homeostases and enterocyte proliferation and differentiation. Hypervitaminosis D generates changes in cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis in several organs. We analysed morphometric parameters and proliferative and apoptotic indices in the intestinal epithelium of rabbits with hypervitaminosis D induced by the chronic treatment with the calcinogenic plant Solanum glaucophyllum. Rabbits were treated for 15 or 30 days. A group was treated for 15 days and led to possible … Show more

“…The excess of vitamin D can be toxic to tissues by inducing the mineralization of soft tissues, R. Bras. Zootec., 47:e20170186, 2018 has negative effect on leg health, decreases body weight gain, and increases feed cost (Cruickshank and Sim, 1987;Zanuzzi et al, 2012).…”

“…Negative control sections were prepared by omitting primary antibody. Positive control sections for PCNA were samples of mammalian intestine (Zanuzzi et al, ) and for NKP were samples of chicken kidney (Pastor et al, ). To calculate the proliferation index in the four intestinal portions we counted at least 700 enterocytes per slide using a 100× objective.…”
