Abstract:This thesis examines the effects of a social comparison process on stereotyping Hispanics. Using a reading of an Asian-American success essay, the estimation of perceived opportunity for success in American society was studied. Similarly, the degree of stereotyping was examined. Finally, the estimation of perceived discrimination against Hispanics was looked at. Research shows that estimates of opportunity were not changed by reading the Asian success essay.
