Effects of Sintering Temperature on the Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of Nb-Doped PZT Ceramics and Their Applications

Abstract: The PZT-based ceramics with a composition of Pb 1−0.5x (Zr 0.52 Ti 0.48 ) 1−x Nb x O 3 ; x = 0.04-0.06 were prepared by conventional mixed-oxide method, with sintering temperature at 1200 • -1300 • for 2 hours. Microstructural and compositional analyses of the PZT-based ceramics have been carried out using XRD and SEM. The dielectric constant measured at 1 kHz is about 1500 and the loss factor is small than 2%. The maximum planar electromechanical coupling coefficient, k p , is 0.59. It showed that the Nb addi… Show more

“…We obtained piezoelectric active elements in different shapes required by the application. In the elaboration process we used advanced milling technique to obtain fine-grained powders [6], and we sintered the compositions at different temperatures to obtain high density of active elements. To obtain the active elements we started from the chemical composition described by the general formula: Pb(Zr 0.52 Ti 0.48 ) 1-x Nb x O 3 with x=0.024, encoded PZTN.…”

“…As reported, Nb doping can compensate for the vacancy at the B site for ABO 3 -type perovskites caused by La doping. Nb-doping also has been proven to contribute to the improvement of piezoelectric responses and fatigue behavior, then the decrease in the coercive field [ 14 , 15 ]. In addition, Nb oxide is helpful to densify the Pb(Zr 1−x Ti x )O 3 (abbreviated as PZT)-based piezoceramics and decrease the sintering temperature slightly [ 14 ].…”
