Effects of Shade and Biochar Application on the Quercetin Content of Longevity Spinach in Inceptisol

Abstract: Traditional medicines have been used in both developed and developing countries for a long time, one of which is longevity spinach (Gynura procumbens). Its plants are one type of plant that is used by the community to treat various diseases with their flavonoid content. This plant produces various flavonoids, such as quercetin, which can be optimized by providing shade and increasing nitrogen nutrients by giving biochar and fertilizing. This study aimed to determine the effects of biochar, shade, and fertilize… Show more

“…Similar case was reported in spinach. Biochar application improved flavonoid activity by reducing the adverse effect of free radicals and ROS (Prasetya et al 2021). In the current study BC (32.5 g/pot) improved the anthocyanin production in spinach which is related to previous investigation.…”

“…Afterward, the pH was measured in saturated paste extract by a pH meter (Model METROHM632), EC by an EC meter (Model JENWAY4310), and cation exchange capacity (CEC) was measured at pH=7 using 1 mol L -1 ammonium acetate, respectively (Moncada et al, 2014). The Walkley-Black method was utilized to measure the organic matter content (Prasetya et al, 2021)., Moreover, the concentrations of total nitrogen N, phosphorus P, and potassium K were determined through the Kjeldahl method (Page et al, 1982). The bulk density (BD), particle density (PD), and total porosity of the soil mixture were measured using the cutting ring method with a volume of 100 cm3 at the central laboratory of Lorestan University (Fan et al, 2015).…”
