Effects of seat structural dynamics on current ride comfort criteria

Abstract: The effects of the vehicle seat structural dynamics have not been discussed in the human body vibration ISO . The results of this research show that the current measurement method suggested by ISO 2631-1 (1997) can significantly underestimate the vibration discomfort level at around the seat structural vibration mode.

“…In order to minimize any possible effects of noise on the results of this study, care was taken to run all experiment in similar noise conditions. Prior to drowsiness measurement, measurement of total transmitted vibration (seat pan and backrest) to each volunteer have been done in accordance with ISO 2631-1 (1997) and used the method reported by Fard et al 11 , 29 ) . The measurement was carried out to adjust the required hydraulic input force for every volunteer to become 0.2 ms −2 r.m.s.…”

“…Two tri-axial accelerometer pads (SVANTEK SV-38V model) were used to measure the transmitted vibration to the human volunteer body at both seat cushion and the seatback 29 ) . This magnitude was calculated according to ISO2631-1 (1997) International Standard, which represents a total transmitted vibration value measured from the transducer or accelerometer pad that was placed at the interface between seat supporting surface (seat cushion and seatback) and human interface.…”

“…For security and efficiency reasons, researchers usually prefer using laboratory devices to using real vehicles, for example, Fard discussed the effects of seated structural dynamics on ride comfort criteria using a vibration simulation system [ 15 ]. With the development of simulation technology, a motion simulation system now can convey the effect of gravitational forces and cues participants experience during kinematic changes in acceleration.…”

“…Piecewise linear is a vibration isolator whose system has nonlinear geometric characteristics of sti ness and damping, where nonlinearity is a result of moving among nite number of liner segments, [15]. These systems potentially can model and a variety of practical applications [17][18][19]. The piecewise linear systems are di cult to analyze as sudden changes in system parameters display unprecedented complex behavior.…”
