Effects of salinity on growth performance, survival rate, digestive enzyme activities and physiological parameters of striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) at larval stage

Abstract: The present study was to investigate the effects of different salinities (0 (control), 3, 6, 9, 12, 15‰) in striped catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) at larvae stage. Four-hundred individuals were randomly distributed to each 500-L composite tank (containing 250-L water) in triplicates. After 60 days, fish was sampled to determine survival rate, growth performance, hematological parameters, stress response indicators, and enzymatic activities. The results showed that the survival rate was highest in 6‰ (60… Show more

“…observations of the present study were marginally comparable with the earlier report of 90-134 mg dl À1 glucose and 84.1 ± 14.1 ng ml À1 cortisol level in P. hypophthalmus byYaghobi et al (2015) andNguyen et al (2021), respectively. The SOD assay and CAT are oxidative enzymes that influence the homeostasis in cells and are the key factors in animal defence against oxidative stress(Nuwansi et al, 2021).…”

“…In general, the pH value in surface water of Cu Lao Dung district is within the allowable range of column B1 of QCVN 08-MT:2015/BTNMT. However, in freshwater environment, if the pH is increased above 8 it will increase the toxicity of ammonia in water compared to lower pH [31]. TSS concentration in 16 surface water samples monitored in canals and canals of Cu Lao Dung district in October 2021 largely fluctuated from 21.50-136.10 mg/L with an average value of 63.78±37.55 mg/L, the lowest and highest at S11-Day canal and S5-Bung Binh canal, respectively (Table II).…”

“…According to Nguyen et al [18], after three months of catfish culture, the sediment volume is about 1,600 m 3 ha -1 and then the sediment volume increase to 1,000 m 3 ha -1 month -1 . According to surveyed results, each fish growing cycle lasts from 6 to 8 months and 2 to 3 months for cleaning and disinfecting ponds before a new raising cycle.…”
