Effects of Replacing Fishmeal with Soybean Products in Fish and Crustaceans Performance

Abstract: Fish meal (FM) is a principal dietary protein source in aquafeed. The rapid development of aquaculture resulted in high demand and a shortage of (FM) supply. The reason mentioned above has led to a search for an alternative protein sources as (FM) replacement in aquafeeds. Amongst plant protein ingredients, soybean meal (SB) is suggested as the most nutritive plant protein source but some contains high concentration of anti-nutritional factors. Among most soybean products compared with FM, soybean protein conc… Show more

“…In the study, the expression of zo -2, claudin -3, and claudin -12 in the CP80 group was higher than in the other groups. This indicates that feeding CP80 can significantly improve fish intestinal health, which is related to low-anti-nutritional factors and amino acid balance in the feed [ 45 , 49 , 84 ]. Therefore, 80% of dietary FM replaced by Cpro can improve the activity of intestinal digestive enzymes, immunity responses, and the structure of the intestinal microbiota of golden pompano.…”

“…Oil-seed meals are cheap, renewable, have a high protein content, and are widely used in aquatic feeds to replace fish meal; Therefore, they play an essential role in the sustainable development of aquaculture [1]. Compared with other oil-seed meals, soybean meal has high nutritional value, a balance of essential amino acids, and few anti-nutrients, making it the most widely used and most effective fish meal substitute in aquatic feeds [2,3]. Due to the sharp increase in the demand for soybean meal in animal feed, its price has soared and is no longer as economical.…”

“…There have been serious restrictions concerning the sustainable development of the aquatic feed industry ( 8 , 9 ). Therefore, developing renewable alternative protein sources has been a key factor in the profitability of shrimp farming ( 10 ). Research into nutritious, cheap, readily available, highly efficient, and environmentally friendly plant protein sources to replace FM has become a hot topic for the aquafeed industry and academic research ( 11 , 12 ).…”
