Effects of Repeated Laundering on Thermal Comfort Properties of Cellulosic Knitted Fabrics

Abstract: Air and water vapour permeability, thickness and thermal resistance of fabrics are some of the most important parameters to determine clothing comfort. However, these parameters tend to change after laundering in daily use. In this study, changes in the thermal comfort properties of cellulosic fabrics used in underwear and sock production, due to repeated laundering, were investigated. For this purpose, 100% cotton, viscose, Viloft, Modal, Promodal and Tencel fabrics, in single jersey construction, were select… Show more

“…According to Dias and Delkumburewatte (2007), comfort is defined as the absence of displeasure or discomfort or a neutral state compared to the more active state of pleasure. Generally, there are three parameters which are mainly influencing comfort properties of clothing; these are thermo-physiological, sensorial, and psychological comfort (Atalie et al , 2019; Demiryürek et al , 2019; Srdjak, 2009; Zhang et al , 2010). Thermal properties of textiles are considered to be the most important feature due to the high demand of comfort (Buzaite et al , 2019; Oner, 2019; Prakash and Ramakrishnan, 2013a, b; Prakash et al , 2011, 2013).…”
