Effects of recombinant human growth hormone in the treatment of dwarfism and relationship between IGF-1, IGFBP-3 and thyroid hormone

Abstract: The effects of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) in the treatment of dwarfism and the relationship between insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1, IGF-binding protein (IGFBP)-3 and thyroid hormone were examined in the present study. For this purpose, 66 patients diagnosed with dwarfism were selected retrospectively, with 36 cases of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and 30 cases of idiopathic short stature (ISS). The therapeutic dose of GHD 0.10 IU/kg·day and ISS 0.15 IU/kg·day were injected subcutaneously eve… Show more

“…In the present study, the children with ISS had higher IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 levels than the children with GHD, and the difference was statistically significant. This result was concordant with previous studies ( 9 , 10 ). IGF-1 is mainly synthesized and secreted by the liver, and its expression varies under the influence of various factors, including GH.…”

“…To assess the applicability of the cross-linked reaction, DBB reacted with r-hGH (22.1 kDa size), which has previously shown promising clinical activity in patients with dwarfism. 31 R-hGH bearing eight Y and two disulfide bridges was digested to generate 19 fragments. This study has focused on the peptide fragments containing tyrosine residues (i.e., #4, #6, #10, and #14) (Figure 4).…”
