“…However, MDA-MB-231 cells did not show significant cytotoxicity to quercetin, though at 48h of 100μM quercetin treatment less than 40% of cells showed cytotoxicity ( Fig 1B ). We restricted our study, to lower concentrations of quercetin, as few other studies state that higher concentrations of quercetin become carcinogenic and induce risk of leukemia in young children [ 27 , 28 ]. Hence, we fixed up a minimal dosage of 40μM of quercetin for both the cell lines.…”

“…Although studies say that quercetin may protect against some forms of cancer when consumed in the diet [ 30 , 31 ]. However, there are also few studies which state that higher dosage of quercetin is carcinogenic and increases the risk of leukemia in young children [ 27 , 28 ]. Hence in this study, we restricted to lower dosage of quercetin.…”

“…In fact, it was previously shown in several studies that rutin, quercetin and isoquercitrin have anticonvulsant effects on the experimental epilepsy models (Nassiri-Asl et al, 2008;Choudhary et al, 2011;Guo et al, 2011;Nitsinskaya et al, 2011). Additionally, Taviano et al (2007) reported that ursolic acid produced a protective effect against PTZ-induces seizures.…”

“…The results obtained from studies on some animal models of epilepsy such as intravenous infusion pentylenetetrazol tests, maximal electroshock, and seizures induced by 6Hz stimulation showed that quercetin and rutin in some doses attenuate seizure factors only in the 6Hz induced seizure test and do not change seizure parameters in other models [ 49 ]. Proconvulsant effects have also been reported for quercetin on N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) and pentylenetetrazol induced seizures [ 50 ]. Therefore, it seems that free radical scavengers and antioxidants do not necessarily attenuate seizure symptoms.…”
