“…As we know, the microtubule cytoskeleton confers the shape of Sertoli cells and supports intracellular trafficking of proteins and cell organelles as well as spermatid transport; likewise, the BTB established by neighboring Sertoli cells also has multiple functions, such as regulating the pass of preleptotene/leptotene spermatocytes to facilitate spermatogenesis, creating an immunological barrier and preventing harmful substances from entering the developing germ cells . Given these crucial functions of the microtubule cytoskeleton of Sertoli Cells and the BTB, therefore, we infer that compromised microtubule cytoskeleton and BTB may increase the susceptibility of the testis to some disadvantages, such as aging, infection, medical drugs, and chemical toxicants, as discussed in our recent study regarding adverse effects of TBBPA. , Importantly, the dose of 50 μg/kg/d for mice, equivalent to approximately 3.5 μg/kg/d for humans, is close to the exposure level of some widely used BFRs, such as TBBPA and polybrominated diphenyl ethers, in occupational populations . Although no available data concerning human daily intake of TBBPA-BDBPE define whether this dose is relevant to human exposure; however, if considering the extended use of TBBPA-BDBPE as a substitute for DecaBDE, elevated human exposure is expected in the future.…”

“…We chose oral (via drinking water) administration of the samples with lactating and weaned animals. To ensure the expected doses, the concentrations of TBBPA-BDBPE in drinking water were estimated to be approximately 0, 15, and 3000 ng/mL, respectively, based on the daily water consumption and body weight we monitored in our previous study . Specifically, TBBPA-BDBPE (CAS number 21850-44-2; >98%; MREDA, China) was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) to prepare stock solutions.…”

“…At the cellular level, spermatogonia show altered DNA damage response, cytoskeleton and cell cycle. Li et al, 2022 evaluated the postnatal effect of TBBPA on dams and found little effects on testis weight and serum testosterone levels but reduced cell proliferation resulting in smaller seminiferous tubule area decrease Sertoli cells and germ cells number. Unfortunately, they did not evaluate the reproduction success.…”
