Selectivity for schistosome acetylcholinesterase has been obtained with some dansylated acetylcholine analogues (Hillman, Chu & Dotson, 1980;Dotson, Chu & Hillman, 1981), phosphonium compounds (Willcockson, Dotson, McAllister, Grim, Ahmed & Hillman, 1982) and iV-chloroethylacetylcholine derivatives . The labelling of schistosomes with the dansylated drug is inhibited by cholinesterase inhibitors, high concentrations of atropine and mecamylamine (suggesting a low nicotinic potency), trifluoperazine and hycanthone (Hillman, Gibler & Anderson, 1978).…”
