Effects of near‐fault ground motions on the nonlinear dynamic response of base‐isolated r.c. framed buildings

Abstract: SUMMARYNear-fault ground motions are characterized by long-period horizontal pulses and high values of the ratio between the peak value of the vertical acceleration, PGA V , and the analogous value of the horizontal acceleration, PGA H , which can become critical for base-isolated (BI) structures. The objective of the present work is to check the effectiveness of the base isolation of framed buildings when using HighDamping-Rubber Bearings (HDRBs), taking into consideration the combined effects of the horizont… Show more

“…end sections). A two-spring-two-dashpot model is adopted for modelling the coupling of horizontal and vertical responses for HDLRBs [22]. Moreover, LRBs are idealized by means of a two-component model, comprising an elastic-perfectlyplastic component and an elastic component, based on a bilinear force-displacement law.…”

“…[10] faya yakın bir bölgede olduğu düşünülen farklı kat sayısına sahip bitişik binaların etkilerini incelemişlerdir. Mazza ve Vulcano [11] yaptıkları çalışmada yakın fay yer hareketlerinin yatay ve düşey bileşenlerini dikkate alarak taban izolasyonlu betonarme çerçeveli binaların doğrusal olmayan dinamik tepkileri üzerine etkilerini incelemişlerdir.…”

“…Program complexes of the "average" class (Lyre, MicroFE, etc.) are simpler in mastering for ordinary engineers, but do not allow to look through in details as set initial parameters of calculations (for example, diagram of concrete deformation and algorithms of the account of crack formation), and results of calculation (for example, crack formation on height of the element) [4][5][6]. That is, the given program complexes hide necessary options and target parameters that does not allow from the user high-grade to verify results of the executed calculations.…”
