Effects of Moringa oleifera Seed Oil on Cultured Human Sebocytes In Vitro and Comparison with Other Oil Types

Abstract: The seeds of Moringa oleifera (horseradish tree) contain about 40% of one of the most stable vegetable oils (Moringa seed oil). Therefore, the effects of Moringa seed oil on human SZ95 sebocytes were investigated and were compared with other vegetable oils. Immortalized human SZ95 sebocytes were treated with Moringa seed oil, olive oil, sunflower oil, linoleic acid and oleic acid. Lipid droplets were visualized by Nile Red fluorescence, cytokine secretion via cytokine antibody array, cell viability with calcei… Show more

“…Moringa oleifera extracts are one of the most important natural alternatives to chemical antioxidants, which pose a health risk due to their cumulative effect [6]. Moringa oleifera seed oil is one of the most important natural alternatives as it contains tocopherol, phenols, carotenoids and sterols [7][8][9]. In IOP Publishing doi:10.1088/1755-1315/1371/6/062026 2 addition to the high content of oleic acid, this is important for extending the shelf life of oils and increasing their stability [8,10].…”

“…Among the sebum components, LA is central. It contributes to the structural organisation and function of the permeability barrier of the stratum corneum [9] and also stimulates lipid production, increasing cell size and promoting differentiation and the delayed proliferation of sebocytes [10][11][12]. In pathological conditions such as acne-one of the most common inflammatory skin diseases associated with SGs-reduced levels of LA compared with other species have been associated with increased microcomedone formation and increased follicular cast size in affected patients.…”
