Effects of miRNA-130a on the proliferation and apoptosis of glioma cell lines

Abstract: Regulatory ability of micro-ribose nucleic acid-130a (miRNA-130a) in the proliferation and invasive growth of human brain glioma cells and its mechanism were investigated. RT-qPCR was used to analyze expression of miRNA-130a in U-87MG glioma specimens; lipidosome was used to mediate miRNA-130a mimic transfecting glioma cells and the expression of miRNA-130a was detected by using RT-qPCR after transfection; methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay and flow cytometry (FCM) were adopted to evaluate the changes in… Show more

“…Glioma, the most common primary brain tumor, is one of the most deadly malignancies in humans [ 1 3 ]. Since currently available treatments, including surgical resection, radiation and chemotherapy, are far from effective, patients with high-grade gliomas suffer from extremely poor prognosis and survival rates [ 4 6 ], with the average survival time at 9-12 months [ 7 ]. Genetic heterogeneity is a basic characteristic of glioma that causes abnormal up/downregulation in various signaling pathways [ 1 ].…”

“…As a multi-functional factor, miRNA-130a participates in various cellular activities in cancer cells, for example, autophagy, 63 proliferation, 64 and apoptosis. 65 MiRNA-130a has been reported to be an oncogenic factor, whose upregulation in NSCLC tissue is positively correlated to poor prognosis, lymph node metastasis, and stage of tumor node metastasis. 66 Meanwhile, miRNA-130a has been reported to play an important role in chemoresistance of various cancer types.…”

“…Therefore, in order to seek more effective treatment strategies, contemporary studies pay attention to the molecular mechanism involved in the genetic or epigenetic process of NSCLC . Recent tumor research has proved that miRNA is able to regulate various biological processes such as apoptosis, proliferation and metastases . Previous studies have elucidated that the alterations of miRNA expressions could influence NSCLC tumorigenesis.…”
