Effects of microbial elicitor on production of hypocrellin by Shiraia bambusicola

Abstract: Some endophyte isolates were isolated in a bamboo pole sample parasitized the fungus Shiraia bambusicola from Zhejiang Province. After screening through hypocrellin bacteriostatic effect and fermentation test, we got the isolate TX4 of bacterial elicitor and GZUIFR-TT1 of fungal elicitor which had certain effect to promote S. bambusicola to produce hypocrellin. The Plackett-Burman design was introduced to evaluate the effects of nine factors based on single-factor test. Yeast extract, glucose, and isolate GZUI… Show more

“…The determination of hypocrellin content was similar to the method described by Du et al (2013). The dried mycelia (100 mg) were treated in 6 M HCl at 60°C (1 h), and the precipitate was collected by centrifugation and extracted by ethanol (5 ml) for 24 h (twice).…”

“…Increases in hypocrellin production induced by fungal elicitors and the mechanism involved are rarely investigated. Our previous study showed that the endophytic fungus Trametes sp., which was isolated from the endothelial stem cells of bamboo, improves the survival rate of S. bambusicola cultures and increases hypocrellin expression (Du et al 2013). Similar reports are rarely available.…”

“…[20] Furthermore, it has been proved that addition of bacterial and fungal elicitor into a Czapek medium is effective for advancing the efficiency of fermentation process. [19] In the present study, we also optimized the cultivation condition and culture medium composition, and the results displayed that HA increased remarkably by the appropriate parameters for the liquid fermentation.…”

“…Microbial elicitors had taken effect on the production of hypocrellin by the wild isolates of S. bambusicola, and the experimental value of hypocrellin production was 102.60 mg/L. [19] Compared with the published achievements, our optimum content of hypocrellin is significantly high among them, which raised the prospect that a new S. bambusicola strain ZZZ816 is of great potential for reducing the cost of hypocrellin production and expanding the application range.…”
